A Symbol of Justice

A Storytelling Tour to Help Us Learn about Kannagi

The World Storytelling Institute and the Tamilnadu Tourism Dept have introduced a new venture, which takes participants on a Tour to the places where Kannagi lived. The story of Kannagi will be narrated along the way. In these places, participants will have the opportunity to listen to stories about the memorable events relating to Kannagi’s life, and to gather information by interacting with local people. The Tour will visit the places Kannagi walked through, such as Poompuhar, Madurai, and Valparai. In this way, Kannagi, who is deemed as a symbol of justice, could become world-known. This Storytelling Tour commences on 22 February at Chennai, and concludes on 7 March. Those interested in participating can register with the Tourism Dept prior to the date of departure.

Storytelling Tour to the Places Where Kannagi Lived

A Storytelling Tour to the places where Kannagi lived commences on 22 February, and concludes on 7 March. The Tour is arranged by the World Storytelling Institute and the Tamilnadu Tourism Dept. The participants of the Tour will visit the places where Kannagi lived and traveled, as described in the Silappathikaram (Epic of the Anklet).

The Tour commences from Chennai on 22 February. Places such as Poompuhar, Madurai, and Valparai will be visited. Along the way, people living in these areas will narrate about their stories, beliefs, and traditional values relating to Kannagi, which are prevalent to them through many generations. This will enable participants to learn more about the values of the Silappathikaram. types of land mentioned in ancient Tamil literature: Neydal (Seashore), Marudam (Agricultural land), Mullai (Pasture land), Paalai (Dry land), and Kurinchi (Mountain forests).
